Claude is one of the most capable AI assistants available today, but it works best when it has real tools to act on. WP MCP gives Claude direct access to your WordPress site — so instead of copy-pasting content between windows, you can just tell Claude what you want done.
This guide walks you through the full setup in under 10 minutes.
What You'll Need
- A live WordPress site (self-hosted or managed)
- Claude Desktop or Cursor installed on your machine
- A WP MCP account (sign up at wordpr-mcp.com/signup)
- Your WordPress admin credentials
Step 1 — Create Your WP MCP Account
Head to wordpr-mcp.com/signup and register. After verifying your email, you'll land on the onboarding dashboard. This is where you'll add your WordPress site and generate your MCP server credentials.
Step 2 — Connect Your WordPress Site
WP MCP connects to WordPress through the WP REST API, which is enabled by default on all WordPress installs running version 4.7 or later.
In the onboarding screen, enter:
- Site URL — e.g.
https://mysite.com - Application Password — generate one in WordPress under Users → Profile → Application Passwords
WP MCP will verify the connection and show you a green checkmark when it's live.
Step 3 — Copy Your MCP Server URL
Once your site is connected, WP MCP generates a personal MCP server endpoint that looks like this:
https://wordpr-mcp.com/mcp/{your-server-id}
Copy this URL — you'll paste it into Claude Desktop in the next step.
Step 4 — Add WP MCP to Claude Desktop
Open Claude Desktop and go to Settings → Model Context Protocol → Add Server. Paste your WP MCP server URL and give it a name like My WordPress Site.
After saving, restart Claude Desktop. You'll see a small tool icon appear in the chat interface when Claude detects the server is live.
Step 5 — Start Using Claude with WordPress
That's it — Claude now has access to over 1,800 tools for your WordPress site. Try some of these commands to get started:
- "Write a blog post about [topic] and save it as a draft"
- "Show me the last 10 orders in WooCommerce"
- "Update the site title and tagline"
- "Install and activate the Yoast SEO plugin"
- "List all pages and tell me which ones have no content"
Tips for Getting the Most Out of WP MCP
Claude works best when you give it clear, specific instructions. Instead of "write a post", try "write a 600-word post about email marketing for small businesses, optimized for the keyword 'email marketing tips 2026', and save it as a draft with the category set to Marketing".
You can also chain requests: "Update the hero title on the homepage, then check the site health score, and let me know if there are any critical issues."
